Isabelle van Keulen Ensemble

TANGO!

Isabelle van Keulen is a top-notch violinist. She performs in the most famous concert halls all over the world, concurrently recording one exceptional CD after the other. Recently she managed to complete an entirely new project that she had been dreaming about since her early youth: a CD recording and a tour with music by the Argentine tango musician, bandoneon player and composer Astor Piazolla (1921-1992).

Van Keulen first discovered Piazolla’s works when she was about six years old. When her mother gave her an LP with Piazolla’s best-known pieces she was immediately entranced by them. Tango! is therefore a long cherished dream come true. The Isabelle van Keulen Ensemble, especially founded for this purpose, plays Piazolla’s music to perfection: unpolished, raw and naked. From heart to heart.

Koningskind

In Koningskind (Royal Child) toddlers familiarize themselves with composer Jean-Baptiste Lully and king Louis XIV. Two musicians and an actress immerse the children in the music of those days, enabling them to discover the sound and rhythm of baroque instruments and to experience the sound of silence. A stimulating baroque experience for toddlers from 2,5 years on, and their (grand)parents.

Jean-Baptiste Lully was a composer of Italian extraction, a founding father of French baroque and of opera. He was an extraordinary multitasker, serving as a ballet dancer, violinist, conductor and composer. Sun King Louis XIV grew up with Lully, played the guitar and was an expert dancer. His reign, lasting from 1643 till his death in 1715, started when he was four years old. In the framework of the Kunstendag voor Kinderen (Day of the Arts for Children), these figures are revived, sized down to the proportions of our little ones.

Performers
Maja Jantar, act | Annelies Decock, violin | Dimos de Beun, recorder & harpsichord | Alexandra Aerts, concept

Lecture ‘Holy Places, Holy Books’: Islam

In the august sacral concert hall of AMUZ six speakers are invited to deliver a lecture on their personal pilgrimage and their individual quest in life.

The lectures are distinctively different, yet at the same time truly universal. They deal with the personal reflection on contemporary society and the search for a genuine spirituality, from the vantage point of a specific cultural and societal environment, which is firmly rooted in Islam, Judaism and Christianity, respectively.

Leïla Babès – born in Algeria – is a writer holding a doctorate in religious sociology to boot. She teaches at the Institute for the History of Religions in Lille. Leïla Babès has written many articles and essays on the relationship between Islam and the secularization process in (French) society.

Music: Babacar Siby – chant

in collaboration with Moussem Nomadisch Kunstencentrum

SERIES OF LECTURES: ON HOLY PLACES AND HOLY BOOKS

SERIES OF LECTURES: ON HOLY PLACES AND HOLY BOOKS IN JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY, AND ISLAM (lectures in Dutch)

More than half of the world population is Christian, Muslim of Jewish. Despite differences there are also striking similarities. Holy places, holy books is a unique exhibition at the MAS | Museum aan de stroom about the pilgrimage to holy places, while concurrently offering at the Heritage Library Hendrik Conscience a view of the form, content, usage and study of the Tanach (the Old Testament as used by Jews), the Bible and the Koran. An ambitious project supported by several heritage associations and by the three communities of faith.

AMUZ also participates in this expo with a series of lectures on the religions involved, enlivened with music. Further information on the speakers and the musicians will be available later in the AMUZ journal. On Wednesday, January 14 a closing concert will take place with a.o. Patrizia Bovi & Fadia el Hage.
