Ingeborg Gillebo & Håkon Austbø

Before the concert you can enjoy a Norwegian platter in the AMUZ foyer.

In between his numerous concert tours in Europe Edvard Grieg enjoyed the peace of his villa Troldhaugen, near Bergen. In the intimacy of his living room he made music with his wife Nina, a splendid singer. Mezzo Ingeborg Gillebo and Håkon Austbø close our Norway festival with a selection of Grieg’s piano works and songs.

In his Slåtter Edvard Grieg adapted a series of Norwegian country dances from the standard repertoire for Hardanger violin. Grieg arranged the dances skilfully into little gems that perfectly express the playful and capricious character of Norwegian folk music. Also the Ballad in G minor, one of Grieg’s more substantial piano works, was inspired by a Norwegian folk melody. Furthermore the programme features Grieg’s only song cycle, Haugtussa, and some marvellous songs, such as the well-known Jeg elsker deg (I love you) and Solveig’s lullaby from Peer Gynt.

Performers
Ingeborg Gillebo, mezzo soprano | Håkon Austbø, piano

Programme
E. Grieg: Selectie uit Slåtter, opus 72 | Ballade in g, opus 24 | Millom Rosor, opus 39 nr. 4 | Ved en ung hustrus båre, opus 39 nr. 5 | Jeg elsker deg, opus 5 nr. 3 | Solveigs vuggevise uit Peer Gynt, opus 23 | Med en vandlilje, opus 25 nr. 4 | Forårsregn, opus 49 nr. 6 | Liedcyclus Haugtussa, opus 97

Reinoud Van Mechelen & L’Escadron Volant de la Reine

Brunch optional

AMUZ forges an alliance between the young outstanding tenor Reinoud van Mechelen, who despite his name hails from Louvain, and the French ensemble L’Escadron Volant de la Reine for a concert with lamentations by two Neapolitan composers: Alessandro Scarlatti and his lesser known colleague Gaetano Veneziano. All those who are dying to hear wonderful music performed by the stars of tomorrow, will secure tickets for this concert!

L’Escadron Volant de la Reine, named after an ensemble of Catherine de Medici, was founded in 2012 by Antoine Touche. In 2013 the group successfully participated in the International Young Artist’s Presentation. Together with rising star Reinoud van Mechelen they will perform Scarlatti’s and Veneziano’s musical expression of the Lamentations of Jeremiah. Both composers fuse the ancient and modern styles of concertante music which prevailed in Naples around the year 1700. For good measure, the programme is rounded out with instrumental works from the same period.

Performers
Reinoud Van Mechelen, tenor | Josephe Cottet, violin | Fiona-Emélie Poupard, violin | Benjamin Lescoat, viola | Antoine Touch, cello | Sanne Deprettere, double bass | Thibaut Roussel, theorbo | Clément Geoffroy, harpsichord & organ

Programme
A. Scarlatti: Lamentazioni per la settimana santa | Seconda lettione del venerdi santo voor tenor, strijkers & basso continuo | G. Veneziano: Passio del venerdi santo | G. Perti, E.F. Dall’Abaco & A. Scarlatti: Concerti a Quattro da chiesa voor strijkers & basso continuo
