Académie baroque européenne d’Ambronay

Dido & Aeneas

Académie baroque européenne d’Ambronay, led by Paul Agnew, presents the opera Dido & Aeneas by H. Purcell. The love story of Dido, Queen of Carthage, and the Trojan hero Aeneas is considered one of Purcells masterpieces, from the magnificent overture to Didos poignant death scene with the aria When I am laid in earth. The young musicians of the Académie are among the very cream of new talent in Europe, immersing themselves this repertoire both musically and in terms of rhetoric and expressiveness.

Stile Antico

Palestrina: Canticum canticorum

The five-part Canticum canticorum is a majestic start to Laus Polyphoniae. The leading British ensemble Stile Antico sings Palestrinas musical setting of the Song of Songs, a magnificent love poem from the Old Testament in which the love between a man and a woman symbolises the love between God and the believer. There is no other work in which Palestrina achieved such a consummate portrayal of passion. He said himself that this was something new, perhaps not suitable for singing in church, although the work consists of 29 sacred motets.

Rosalba

A musical experience for children aged 2 to 5 years old, based on music by John Dowland and his contemporaries, a painting by Sandro Botticelli, a fascination with the lute and the deep red colour of pomegranates. Rosalba is like a sound that goes on and on forever, a melodious melancholy; it breathes music like a feather duvet or a fluffy pompom; it is a place where the sunrise brings comfort and sadness falls still. Rosalba. White rose.
