You heard them at AMUZ before their big breakthrough: the outstanding club of string and keyboard wizards known as Tasto Solo, who astonished audiences at the International Young Artists’ Presentation (IYAP) in 2006. Fast forward to 2024, when Guillermo Pérez can find his way to AMUZ blindfolded, as can his earliest fans and the newcomers to early music he wins over in concert after concert. This time, he is bringing the sublime Capricci e Madrigali by Vincenzo Ruffo to Antwerp: music from the very heart of the Renaissance. Like the impossibly fine brushwork of Italian master painters in the 16th century, this music portrays a world of refinement and subtlety, complexity and mystery. Flanked by work by contemporaries such as Philippe Verdelot and Jacob Arcadelt, Ruffo’s compositions reveal the hidden side of a corpus in which the past stands side by side with the future.
