Mixed Month of October for Delaware Online Gaming and Retail Sportsbooks

Delaware had a handful exceeding $37 million for the fifth time this year on its online gambling sites in October.

The handle, or amount bet, was $37,473,319 last month, the third-highest amount ever in the state, though it was down 1.3% from 37.95. million dollars in September.

Revenue also declined for iGaming in a month-over-month comparison. Delaware casino revenue in September totaled $1,312,206, with October’s $1,198,520 representing a decline of 8.7%.

As for sports betting, the handle was $13,545,163 in October, a 51.4% increase from $8,948,981 in September.

Delaware Casino Breakdown in October

The top five all-time handles in Delaware iGaming gaming, which includes mobile slots, roulette and card games, all happened in 2022.

Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington led October at $15.8 million, followed by Bally’s Dover at Dover Downs with $12.68 million in total wagering and Harrington Raceway and Casino at $8.95 million .

The state record was set with the Delaware casino revenue report in July at nearly $39.4 million.

As for earnings, October ended a three-month streak of Delaware resetting its state record. Still, last month’s $1.312 million is No. 5 all-time, with the best five months all taking place in 2022.

Delaware Park also led the state in casino revenue in October, but just barely. The facility had $454,647 for the month, just ahead of $440,118 at Bally’s Dover. Harrington recorded $303,755 in revenue for the month.

Football season triggers sports betting spike in Delaware

The total sports betting handful of $13.55 million was not only a huge jump from the previous month, it was the best in the state as $15.57 million was the handful in November 2021, according to Delaware Lottery figures.

This is partly because of football season, of course, when betting interest peaks in every state with a legal and regulated market. But that’s even truer in Delaware, which offers betting cards during football season at more than 100 outlets as well as sports betting at all three casinos.

Delaware does not have online sports betting.

However, total sports betting revenue fell 11.6% from $2,785,652 in September to $2,463,045 in October.
