Exciting Pro-Am Field Invitation | Otago Daily Times News Online

The Hills Invitation Pro-Am course for this weekend’s 36-hole event is thrilling.

The strongest available field possible has been assembled with only Ryan Fox, Josh Geary, Queenstowner Ben Campbell and former winner Mark Brown absent due to critical prior engagements or unforeseen circumstances.

In a welcome gesture, the field will feature two of New Zealand’s top professional women.

Momoka Kobori earned her place thanks to her ranking of the top 12 on merit for 2021 after a good performance on the Charles Tour in competition with the men.

Also on the pitch is Amelia Garvey, who recently narrowly missed qualifying for the LPGA Main Tour but will qualify via the Symetra Tour in 2022 with the aim of joining Lydia Ko on the LPGA Tour.

Twelve players of the Order of Merit plus eight guests make up the 20-person field who will compete for the prize of $ 50,000.

Headlining the men’s peloton are defending champion Dongwoo Kang and recent European Challenge Tour winner Daniel Hillier, who narrowly missed out on full qualification for the European Tour.

The event is more than welcome for Tour players Michael Hendry (Japan), James Anstiss (Latino), Nick Voke (Korn Ferry) and Gareth Paddison (Asian), who were unable to travel due to Covid. In fact, there must have been a collective sigh of relief when the invitations arrived.

“There was nothing to play in for a living,” said Queenstown golfer Anstiss.

“I haven’t played a tournament for seven months. However, I worked full time to fill the void.”

Anstiss was still able to get a few practice laps at The Hills, and a recent lap of 62 (10 under par) indicates it wouldn’t be surprising for him to score his second victory in this event.

The rest of the peloton are former winner Harry Bateman, Luke Toomey, Jordan Loof, Kieran Muir, Fraser Wilkin, Johnny Tynan, Sam An, Luke Brown, Ryan Chisnall, Fraser MacLachlan, Brad Shilton and Hills pro Craig Palmer. .

The 20 pros will each perform with three Hills members in a back-up team event over the two days.

While not a spectator-only event, the live score will be available on the Golf Genius app and possibly the PGA website.
