Entrepreneurs wanted for hospital | Otago Daily Times News Online

The Department of Health is launching an ad for a prime contractor and a facade contractor for the new ambulatory care building at Dunedin Hospital.

The building, the smaller of the two main buildings of the new hospital campus, will be built on the old Wilson parking lot.

The contractors were invited to evaluate a bid to erect a four-storey building of approximately 15,400 m², with a factory located on the roof.

The building will ultimately be connected to the larger inpatient building, which will be built on the former Cadbury factory site, by two upper decks.

The Australasian company CPB Contractors, which built the Christchurch hospital, has already been named by the ministry as its preferred sponsor for the construction of the inpatient building.

The ministry stressed that this does not mean that it is guaranteed to get this contract, nor that it is the precursor to build the outpatient building.

An independent panel of experts is currently assessing the ministry’s request for fast-track approval of the $ 1.47 billion project.

The ministry has filed documents for underground construction work for the two main buildings and a logistics center, and plans to submit authorization documents for the construction and operation of the new hospital later this year.

Concept drawings of what the outpatient building could look like were released by the ministry last month, after receiving developed designs from its architects.

The drawings showed a building with a gross area of approximately 15,000 m² and 1,088 rooms spread over four floors.

Calls for tenders for the project manager close on November 8 and for the facade on October 27.

The ministry is holding a combined briefing with suppliers for both contracts on October 4.

The final plans of the ambulatory care construction plans, the final design phase of this building, are expected to be ready for ministry approval by Christmas.

Pending consent, the outpatient building, which will house services such as day appointments, clinic rooms, day procedures and elective radiology, is expected to open in early 2025.
