E3 2021 online app to feature ‘virtual booths, rankings’ and more

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has detailed the E3 2021 portal and online application.

The show organizer said they will serve as a hub throughout the event, providing fans and media with an “interactive experience” that includes virtual exhibitor booths, places to hang out and chat with other users and gamified spectacle elements.

The online portal will open on June 7 for a media week offering early access to exhibitors at the show, before public access from June 12, which is the first day of the E3 live broadcast.

ESA said the public version of the portal and app will include:

  • Exhibitor Booths – Showcasing special events, content and VOD items, exhibitor booths will serve as hubs within the portal for key announcements and game information related to each exhibitor
  • Lounges – Online gathering places for all E3 attendees
  • Forums – Special tables for focused online discussion and sharing among participants
  • Leaderboards – Gamified performance elements that can be collected and displayed, encouraging fans to interact in as many ways as possible
  • Profile Creation – All participants can create their own unique profiles in the portal and app, which can be personalized

Registration to access the online portal will be free and will begin later this month.

E3 2021 will take place from June 12 to 15. ESA said the live stream will include showcases from major publishers, press conferences, panels and more.

It will be hosted by Alex ‘Goldenboy’ Mendez, Jacki Jing and Greg Miller, and will feature interactive Hovercast-powered overlays, displaying viewer polls and featured social tweets.

The live stream will also be visible via Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Game companies confirmed to participate in the event include Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Warner Bros. Games, Koch Media, Sega, Square Enix, and Bandai Namco.
