Charge sheet filed in case related to illegal online gambling apps

New Delhi: The Execution Directorate on Wednesday said he filed a complaint in a Goa court in a money laundering case related to the placing of illegal offers through an online poker gambling app.

The prosecution complaint was filed at a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mapusa on June 3 against Kolkata residents and defendants in the case of Hardeep Singh and Ankur Khanna.

They were arrested by the agency after raids on them and other club managers/agents located in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Goa in April.

The court took cognizance of the indictment on June 17 and issued notices to the defendants, the Enforcement Directorate said in a statement.

The money laundering case stems from a Goa Police FIR filed under various sections of the IPC and the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act 1976 and Section 66 -D of the Information Technology Act.

The IT Act section talks about punishment for cheating by impersonation using computer resources.

The police FIR filed a complaint for “illegal gambling activities and the siphoning of huge sums of money through secret networks resulting in losses to the public treasury”.

“Hardeep Singh and Rahul Khanna ran a syndicate named ‘mini-India’ on the online gambling app PP Poker.

“Under their union, you see that around 25-30 clubs were run by different people,” ED said.

Through these clubs, individual players are invited via WhatsApp chats to place “illegal bets” through the poker game app, he alleged.

“We see that commissions have been generated at the rate of 5 to 10% by the said clubs on each table.”

“Settlement of betting commission and amount is done illegally through hawala operators in cash or through anonymous crypto accounts with each individual player and syndicate head by their respective club managers,” the statement said. agency.

The two defendants, he said, had also invested the proceeds of crime in the form of crypto accounts which were “traced” by the ED.
