Anurag Thakur Launches Indian Freedom Fighters Online Game App

As part of the central government’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday launched a game app that presents a fun way to learn more about Indian freedom fighters .

‘Azadi Quest’ app is a collection of online games about Indian freedom heroes and milestones. These mobile games have been developed in collaboration with the popular game developer Zynga India.

Thakur said it was another in a series of government efforts to recognize the contribution of our freedom fighters and unsung heroes to the fight for freedom.

“These games are an effort to tap into the huge market of online gamers and educate them through gaming. Various branches of the Indian government have been gathering information on unsung freedom fighters in corners of the country. Azadi Quest is an effort to make this learning of this knowledge engaging and interactive,” explained the Minister.

Thakur said he is confident that people of all age groups will be hooked on these games and they will quickly become household favourites.

Speaking on the growing AVGC (Visual Animation Games and Comics) sector in India, Thakur said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been making continuous efforts to nurture the AVGC sector in India . Over the past few years, India has risen to the top five countries in the gaming industry.

“The gaming sector grew by 28% in 2021 alone. The number of online gamers grew by 8% between 2020 and 2021 and by 2023, the number of such gamers is expected to reach 45 crores,” a- he added.

He further stated that these applications will enhance the capabilities of our AVGC sector and at the same time take our glorious history to every corner of the world.

The information in these apps has been curated by the Publications Division and the Indian Council of Historical Research and will become an easily accessible treasure trove of authentic information about our struggle for freedom, he said.
