Spitalfields Music presents

A boy and a magpie are hunting for treasures along the river shore. Monteverdi’s music forms the soundtrack for their adventure. In a sparkling world replete with colourful objects to touch, explore and use for sound production, babies and toddlers from 0 to 2 years of age discover music from 400 years ago.

The concerts for our littlest ones during Laus Polyphoniae have become a tradition by now. With Monteverdi Dances AMUZ has found an attractive successor for the popular Concertos para Bebés. The British collective from Spitalfields Music will charm young and old with this exciting and interactive production. The performers are promising musicians from the junior projects of The Sixteen and The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Joshua Rifkin & Concerto Palatino

The original meaning of Monteverdi’s Vespers from 1610 has long been speculated upon among musicologists. According to an educated guess Claudio wrote it as an audition piece with an eye to jobs in Venice or Rome. The large-scale work combines the ancient and the new style of composing in an elegant way. This pioneering performance by Joshua Rifkin and the top musicians of Concerto Palatino is a must for Monteverdi fans and a fascinating finale of Laus Polyphoniae 2014!

Joshua Rifkin researched Monteverdi’s Maria Vespers in depth and discovered that in the 17th century this music was performed totally differently from what is done today. Laus Polypohoniae connected Rifkin and the famous Concerto Palatino with a view to putting the results of this research into practice. Allow yourself to be surprised by this innovative execution in three parts!
