Boreas Quartett Bremen

Il flauto magico

The virtuosity of the recorder was not only admired in the Renaissance. Composers today also write exciting music for this versatile instrument. In Il flauto magico, the four young flautists of the Boreas Quartett Bremen, IYAP-laureates 2015, take you on a tantalizing journey from the Middle Ages to the present day, showing that ideas about wealth of sound and virtuosity have changed little over the last 600 years. Expect an evening full of contrasts: many different recorders, rapid changes and a lively, magical interplay.

Zsuzsi Tóth & Goeyvaerts Strijktrio

Spiritual Lab

Giacinto Scelsi confronts Hildegard von Bingen: the sounds of the upper spheres, visions and spiritual dimensions. Giacinto Scelsi achieved the highest form of intimacy in the pieces he wrote for strings. Elegia per Ty, dedicated to his wife who died young, is one of his most poignant works. Goeyvaerts String Trio researched Scelsis musical roots at the Fondazione Scelsi in Rome. Zsuzsi Tóth has immersed herself in Hildegard von Bingens extensive musical legacy.

Psallentes & Het Collectief

Hildegard von Bingen and Galina Oestvolskaja

Het Collectief and the Psallentes female singers have brought about a remarkable encounter across nine hundred years of music history. A wise German mystic from the 12th century, Hildegard von Bingen, and a Russian composer of the 20th century, Galina Ustvolskaya, appear to have been driven to written music by the same inner need. The confrontation of von Bingens extravagantly virtuoso, lively melismas with Ustvolskayas excessive style brings an astonishing new world of sound to life.
