Marc Mauillon en Anne Le Bozec

Fauré et ses poètes

Gabriel Fauré, the master of the chanson, had an unrivalled talent for turning the emotions and images in poetry by Victor Hugo, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Molière and other great poets into enchanting soundscapes. The exceptional French baritone Marc Mauillon pays tribute to Fauré, following his songs chronologically and thus offering a sense of how the composer’s mastery developed. De Volkskrant wrote: “The man who goes through life as a tenor and a baritone sings Fauré with a naturalness you associate more with French chansons than classical lieder. Clear high notes with little vibrato.”

InVocare

Musick, a sister to poetrie

The young vocal ensemble InVocare distinguished itself at Laus Polyphoniae. Now it is back on stage at AMUZ with English madrigals by composers including John Dowland, John Wilbye, John Ward and Alfonso Ferrabosco the Elder. The Italian madrigal style set a new tone in England and stimulated a flourishing of English consort singing. To prepare this programme, InVocare consulted specialists on the English pronunciation of the time, to make the very most of the poetry in the texts and ensure that the rhetoric of the text coincides with that of the music.

María Cristina Kiehr & Ariel Abramovich

Imaginario: a Song Book for the Vihuela

The brilliant Argentinean soprano María Cristina Kiehr and the lute and vihuela player Ariel Abramo- vich present a unique perspective on the music of the Spanish Renaissance. The vihuela is a plucked instrument with a warm, clear sound that was very popular on the Iberian Peninsula and Northern Italy in the 16th century, although it has since been almost entirely forgotten. Abramovich writes arrangements of the most famous songs of the age, as was customary at the time as well. Allow yourself to be astonished by this exceptional combination of creativity and history, and the understated, rhythmic repertoire of the Spanish Golden Age.

Songs by J. Vasquez, J. des Prez, J. Arcadelt, A. Willaert and others
